And Then The Buds Opened. . . .

"The temple bell stops
but I still hear the sound
coming out of the flowers."
- Basho

"Clematis smothered with huge cream flowers.
Cornflowers at its feet, piercing the grey morning with colour.
Burgeoning nature bursting from the confines of the brick edged beds.
A riot of green energy, vital, vibrant, alive. I observe from my kitchen window,
mesmerized
by it seemingly growing before my eyes
. . . behind me the kettle boils.
"

"That's the thing with magic. You've got to know it's still here, all around us,
or it just stays invisible for you." - Charles de Lint

Buddha, Bluebells and a Beautiful Sky. . .

"Lilac grows up into the endless blue of the sky - a splash of colour added
to the vast palette of greens. Jackdaw on the fence post, his pale
blue eyes a flash a silver among the shadows and sunlight."
- My Name is ZING

A week of blazing sunshine and warm temperatures. In my garden there were bluebells . . .

. . . and buddha was meditating among the greenery.

There were splashes of this wonderful pink . . .

and sunlight and shadow playing among the bluebells.

Then while I was waiting in the car park of a DIY warehouse
I looked up and was held spellbound by this beautiful sky!

I hope your week has been a good one. x

Dandelions, Tulips and the Promise of Lilacs...

"What a nice day. What a nice universe." - Flemming Funch

"Outside my window a Jackson Pollock riot of yellow spattered dandelions
transforms the plain green canvas into a giant painting underfoot.
And the landscape is alive as the
miniature suns open their
intricate and shining hearts to the sky." -
My Name is ZING

The yellow tulips opened and
the magnolia petals started to fall
litterering the ground like confetti.

Seemingly overnight, the blooms have begun to appear
decorating the lilac bush outside of my window.
Soon their heady scent will fill the air. . .

Tulips, Buds, and Bumble Bees

"Trees do not force their sap nor does the flower push its bloom." - Rainer Maria Rilke

This week bought warm days, more sunshine and tulips! All of the red and orange ones have opened, the yellow ones are still in bud but swelling daily.

The weather held out for the Magnolia by my gate and it looks and smells wonderful, in all the time we have lived here, this year is the best it has been.

Every day when I walk around the garden something new is flowering or poking up through the earth.

"The peace and beauty of a spring day had descended upon the earth like a benediction. "
- Kate Chopin

The beautiful cream clematis is promising much, with its abundant buds.
The watchful owl is keeping guard over them for me. :-)

Then this lovely moment - I was so excited when I managed to capture this bee in flight!

Mid week and my craving to be near the ocean surfaced again. I haven't been to the sea for years now and my very favourite place is over 300 miles and a five and a half hour drive away.

So to ease my longing we drove to the nearest body of water.... a reservoir! When you can't get to the ocean you have to make do.

"I was standing at the edge of the reservoir, watching the breeze draw patterns on the water. The thick white cloud parted to give a glimpse of the brightest blue sky.

Then came the transformation - a shaft of sunlight illuminated the ever moving dark water at my feet, dancing upon its surface like a million scattered diamonds." -
My Name is ZING

(Sorry I couldn't manage to capture that moment on camera for you!)

By the reservoir. - Who am I kidding! it is not a patch on the crashing Atlantic waves.

I hope your week has been a good one. x

Magnolia and Mothers Day

"Life’s enchanted cup sparkles near the brim." - Lord Byron

A week of sunshine and blustery winds. Nature seems to be racing into spring time with new things daily to see in the garden. Outside my window I watch as the leaves appear on the lilac bush, the tulips are in bud and the peonies are pushing up through the earth. There are primroses and daffodils and warm winds to usher us into April.

"All Fools day, and by my gate the Magnolia tree is abundant with promise. Its blooms like chalices, pink tinged and pointed at the sky. Such delicate beauty, still serene in the blustery wind of March's last breath. Soon there will be perfume to touch all who enter here, sweet scent at my gate, as April begins..."

"April yawns and stretches in the warm sunshine, welcoming the new month with extended arms. Nature is optimistic, rushing to fill every corner with new life, succulent spring green spreading over the land. The fool stands on one leg reaching for the glittering star above his head. It's all fools day and the light now outweighs the dark."

It's Mothers day this Sunday - a wrapped present for my lovely Mum sits on my desk.

"Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty."
- James Russell Lowell

From my desk I watched as the Sun sank in the sky.
Magnificent and all aglow, the heavens were on fire with colour...

"Last night as darkness fell it creeped in through the big window in my room. Oozing across every surface, it filled the air. Every particle was dark and it entered me, riding my breath, covering my skin, it seeped into every pore. I sat motionless, holding the night inside me."

I hope your week has been a good one. x
