I Saw Sunday - Week 2 - a random assortment of things seen this week

Well, as my lovely sister Deborah is joining in this week it means I am not on my own with I Saw Sunday. Thanks Deb! (I got her blogging at the beginning of August after trying to persuade her for ages, she finally relented and loves it!)

Do check out her great post at The Caterpillar Uprising and read what she saw this week!... say hello and tell her I sent you. :-)

So here are a random assortment of things I saw this week. . .

  • A Blackbird without a golden beak! I was unsettled and amazed until I looked it up and found that young male blackirds don't get their characteristic yellow gold beak until they are older. Thank goodness for that! He had me worried.

  • A huge Heron sitting in a tree while Canada geese splashed in the lake beneath him.

  • I was sitting in the doctors waiting room and as usual all was silent until the young child gripping the table holding the magazines yelled. . . Mum. . . Poo!

I stared, expecting the mother to grab her hand and whisk her off to the toilet

. . . then I noticed the childs look of concentration

    . . . the red face

    . . . and the nappy

and knew it was too late!

What did you see this week?

If you would like to join us we would love you to join in with I Saw Sunday - leave a comment and let me know. :-)

I Saw Sunday - a random assortment of things seen this week

Here are a random assortment of things I saw this week. . .

  • A spider living in the wing mirror of our car. Every time we stop he dashed out to repair his web.

  • Self conscious young girls walking with eyes on all who may be watching. Hair in the latest styles, constantly touched to check it is still in place. Impossible fashions, bravely worn as they giggle and move around each other like a shoal of young and brightly coloured fish.

  • Huddled men with crossed arms lean into lit matches, blow smoke like dragons. Breaktime chatter outside the busy warehouse. Shadows move on tarmac, patterns like water... light made fluid by the breeze. An engine starts and the moment is broken, shattered by the lorries roar.

  • At the bus stop, an old lady with a grey perm in a hairnet and buttoned up coat admires the tattoo on the young womans bare ankle. The younger woman lifts her foot onto the railings and they both lean in close with smiles on their faces, discussing the design.

Hmmm, maybe I will make this a regular feature - I Saw Sunday - (anyone fancy joining in?)

Memories of Summers Long Gone

When I was young I loved horses with a passion. I went for a weekly riding lesson and volunteered to muck out the stables and help out in exchange for rides.

It was a small ramshackle place in the middle of a sleepy old village. I remember the straw and sawdust strewn over the cobbles of the yard, the dark tack room and the smell of leather. The soft warmth of a horses mouth nuzzling my hand for sugar cubes or carrots.

I can still remember all the smells and sounds of that place. . .
But most of all I can remember my longing to be there, to ride, to have a horse of my own.

It has been years and years now since I last rode a horse. . . but today for some reason I remembered the girl I once was and those long summer days filled with the love of horses...

Courgettes and Ladybirds

"The act of putting into your mouth what the earth has grown is
perhaps your most direct interaction with the earth. - Frances Moore Lappé

The courgettes are still growing, it is great just to go outside and cut some for dinner.
There are plenty of ladybirds around this year too!

We call them Courgettes here in England what do you call them where you are?
