“I’m going to make everything around me beautiful - that will be my life.” — Elsie de Wolfe

Remembering. . .

“If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking.”

I wander through the corridors of me
in search of that tiny room
that contains
all I have forgotton

The dark holds such memories
it is taut with unspoken things

Things that lay just below the surface
unseen, but dangerous, even to the sure footed

Those small wrinkles in our bedrock become molehills
that can be magnified into mountains
in those inner cinemas
of the unconscious

I need to find the very darkest corner of me

and there, behind the fears
and the debris

of a life

half lived

I know I will find the spark

That pinprick of startling light. . .
just awaiting the breath of my awareness
to fan it into a fire, that will flood the shadows
illuminating those inner rooms with the brightest light

I reach out with eager hands and pick up that burning torch
I hold it aloft, until all the dark internal places
have seen the light that I carry

Lit up from within

I remember

myself

"Do not fight the darkness,
the light in and the darkness will disappear."
- Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

I was sorting through my Joy Frequencies blog and found this post from last year.
It felt appropriate for some reason to repost it here today....So here it is. :-)

Susannah this is a really good visualisation, beautifully constructed and as pleasing to the eye as your work always is, thank you. I like the quotation from the Maharishi, he was always good at one-liners!

Thank you Morvah, for your kind words. :-)

Good to see you and I hope that the sun is shining for you today down in Cornwall. x

You raise a point we can all relate to in this fabulous poem and that is how easy it can be to lose ourselves in the crevices of life and how it can be the smallest of things which at the time seem really insignificant, which makes us find ourselves again. Very insightful. Very wise.

Hi Selma, I love your observation about "how easy it can be to lose ourselves in the crevices of life"
True and beautifully put.

Thanks very much for your kind words on this poem. x

Your words paint a beautiful picture, they make me wish to close my eyes and listen while someone else reads them.

That light is the still small point at the center of being, that makes us all one...

Incredibly beautiful, Susannah. The inner journey is the real one, for certain.

this is really beautiful! 'Lit up from within I remember myself' happens to be one of the most beautiful things I've ever read in life. That was surely something great to read today. =)
