By my side gate the colours are muted. Pinks, lilacs and mauves, awaiting the lavender with its sweet scent to join them. I love the smell of lavender and have it planted everywhere. Lavender, Rosemary and Roses are some of my favourite smells of the garden. What are yours?
Last Sunday afternoon we went to visit my Mum and enjoyed the sunshine in her garden. We wanted to see her garden building now it was 'almost' finished. My lovely man Joe, designed it.
I loved to see how well these box plants are doing, I gave her these as tiny cuttings.They are twice the size of the ones I kept!
I looked over my shoulder and noticed these wonderful shadows. . .
. . . and was wowed by the colours (and size) of these lovely hostas.

. . . And my newly silvery hair. It is strange really, I have died my hair since I was a teenager, it has been a myriad of colours and I have spent years being a blonde and a red head as well as brunette. I even tried out jet black (with shaved sides!) in my 'almost punk' era. lol - But at the time when the grey starts in earnest and a lot of people start dying their hair, I have finally stopped!. . . I am enjoying seeing the silver appear.
But right now, as I write this post the sun is hidden by dark clouds and we have the strong winds that have been almost constant over the last couple of weeks. Today it has even got so chilly that I have had to turn the heating on (the first time for nearly two months.)
As I look up from my computer this is what I see, the orchid on my windowsill, the heart hanging in the window and beyond that the windblown trees . . .

Grey is good! I agree about roses, rosemary and lavender. I miss hostas... too hot and dry here and perhaps not enough shade in my garden. The boxes are doing really well. Normally they take ages to grow.
Just gorgeous, every single picture. I'm with you about silver hair - mine hasn't been died for about 15 years.
Roses and lavender are great companion plants - I have a rose bed all along the house gable, edged with lavender to keep the aphids away.

I don't grow hostas even though I think they are wonderful. The slugs and snails like them too much and I am not very comfortable with killing things. :-) Whatever grows in my garden has to be able to cope with the 'wildlife' though recently we have discovered that we have a resident hedgehog - he definitely won't go short of food!
The boxes must be at least 8 years old now as I took tiny cuttings from the box hedge where we used to live. My Mum is known for growing everything to huge proportions! :-)

I am looking forward to my hair going silver, my Mums hair is a lovely platinum colour and I think it looks great and just as stunning as her dark hair used to be.

Beautiful flowers. I don't have a garden because I tend to kill all plants almost instantly (even the ones that aren't supposed to die), and because I have 3 very mischievous, large dogs who think it's fun to dig up flowers ;) I enjoy admiring other people's gardens, though.

Susannah, I've only just managed to subscribe to google reader and have been scrolling through your offerings. I found this! And at a time when the first greys are appearing and my fortieth birthday is a little over two weeks away.
I dyed my hair for a long time, until my reincarnation ;-) and I now, like you, am looking forward to the silver with anticipation.
